Everything you need to know to use your eSIM without hassle. From compatibility to installation and troubleshooting.

Compatibility

Three requirements:

  1. An eSIM compatible phone: most models from 2018 on are (iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20+, Google Pixel 3+).
  2. A network unlocked phone: if you bought it from a carrier (Telcel, AT&T, etc.) make sure it's unlocked before you travel.
  3. An internet connection to scan and download the eSIM profile (Wi-Fi or mobile data).

Go to Settings → General → About. If you see the “eSIM number” or “EID” field, your iPhone supports eSIM. Compatible models: iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and all their variants (Pro, Plus, Pro Max, Mini).

Go to Settings → Connections → SIM manager (Samsung) or Settings → Network → SIM & network → Add SIM (Pixel). If the option to add an eSIM appears, your phone is compatible.

No. If your phone is locked to a specific carrier, it won't accept eSIM profiles from other carriers. Contact your carrier to request the unlock: it's free in most cases once the contract is paid off.
